The Lo-Fi Villa – Renovated Joglo with Character in Cemagi
The original joglo was brought to Cemagi more than thirty years ago. It has just come out of a complete renovation that restored its hand-carved wooden panels and traditional proportions while adding the comforts of a modern home – a property that stands out for its authenticity and sense of space. It sits under a natural canopy of enormous trees, a short drive from the seaside of Cemagi and about fifteen minutes from Pererenan and Canggu.
Natural wood, stone, metal and marble run through the house, and only non-toxic lime wash and plaster were used on the walls. The floors are laid with handprinted Balinese tiles. An art collection curated with Further Gallery is displayed throughout and can be acquired separately.
Layout
Two bedrooms are fitted with king-size beds, generous built-in wardrobes, air conditioning and ensuite bathrooms; the third has been turned into a study with a standing desk and its own adjoining bathroom. The house was built to entertain: an upcycled dining table seats twelve, and the culinary kitchen combines marble surfaces with a double-door fridge, built-in oven and gas stove, all European-made. From the terrace you look over the 8-metre swimming pool and a lawn big enough for a workout; an outdoor shower, a three-burner gas BBQ and a surfboard rack are ready by the pool.
